M.I.A gives the Saudi Government the metaphorical middle finger with her new video for Bad Girls. She again worked with Romain Gavros, the French director responsible for her Born Free video. This time around, they've moved from ginger-cide to car stunts heavy on the keffiyeh cool.
The video becomes even cooler when you realise it's intended as a "fuck you" to repressive Saudi driving laws. Women are banned from driving in Saudi Arabia, where "experts" claim that allowing them to do so will lead to prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.
M.I.A also took the time to give an actual (and unblurred) middle finger while performing with Madonna at the Superbowl. There's already a fair amount of media outrage about it, but I doubt M.I.A's finger will end up generate the same amount of press that Janet's nipple did. Hell, I don't even think it's get the press Madonna and Britney's famous lip-lock did.
The NFL and NBC have apologised for this child-ruining, mind-destroying gesture. An NFL spokesman called it "completely inappropriate, very disappointing." For added irony, this is what a typical Superbowl ad looks like.
