The Eagles in SA: Big Concerts Parties Like It's 1979

Big Concerts' dedication to bring every washed-up Dad-Rock and 70s lite AC band to South Africa decades after they've been remotely relevant continues. After teasing a big announcement for days, they announced this morning that The Eagles are to perform in SA next year.

The Eagles are of course responsible for the most overplayed and overrated song of all time Hotel California, a song which I am reliably informed plays continuously in the waiting room to enter Hell. They are also an easy punchline among music enthusiasts when someone wants to invoke lameness - the Coldplay of their day. But since anything that falls under the classic rock umbrella, no matter how safe and boring it is, is blindly worshipped and held up as "real music", we get The fucking Eagles playing in SA to a crowd of boomers whose last ten CD purchases have been "Best Of" compilations. And in between listening to the same tired songs over and over again, they will bitch about how music hasn't been good since 1979 and complain about Music Nowadays and The Rap and that Britney Spears girl.

Begone, boomers! The power of Homme compels you

The tickets range from R370 to the ludicrously overpriced R1070 in Cape Town and Johannesburg. If you're a real sucker for punishment classic rock fan, tickets for the Sun City show range from R1520 to R3520. Yes, Big Concerts really has the audacity to charge three grand for an Eagles ticket. In 2011. Lordy, the only way I'd pay that much for a concert of a band that hasn't been relevant in decades is if they found a way to raise Freddie Mercury or John Bonham from the dead.
